Hmph, looks like comments are not being accepted on the latest Cross-Currents post - I'll do it here.
We can only hope – and, the religious among us, pray – that the final arbiters of the issue recognize that the First Amendment should not be read to eviscerate the values, despite their source in the Torah, that sublimate and ennoble human society.
I think the point is that they are reading the purpose of law as to ignore values, not eviscerate them. It may essentially saying they are irrelevant, at least as far as the state is concerned, but it's hardly eviscerating them. I challenge that people will continue to value or devalue the rejection of homosexuality regardless of this law - which is in fact how the law is articulating its own role. I do agree that consensual incest, bestiality, bigamy and friends are the elephant in the room on this... based on some pop media reports, I am lead to fear that some of these are lamentably losing their stigma. Come on, society, let's not go down this road again.
